If Kelvin thinks WSM is muddy, he should take a look at the Severn up by
Oldbury :-O.
It's all Sav's fault ;-). At Thursday's social, he persuaded Tony Low &
myself to give it a go. Conditions looked very favourable: Rising tide
until 12:00 with opposing NE breeze.
Not sailed here for very many years - probably 10 years, when they used to
run Wessex Region UKBSA events there. TBH, the mud, strong currents, huge
tides, sewage smell from the clubhouse (did I mention the mud?) do nothing
to give the place appeal, yet the sailing *can* be excellent - as it was
this morning.
Pretty much bump & jump conditions, with a short, wind blown chop, and
pretty gusty, too, but was out for a couple of hours on 86l Goya Wave &
5.5m, just about on the limit of being overpowered until the tide started
to slacken. Game over at high tide (12:15 ish). Wind in same direction as
outgoing tide? No thanks.
Good to see Pete & Zara Davies again. Not seen them for several years. Sav
had obviously persuaded them out to the mudfields, too.
A good way to spend a Saturday morning - especially when rounded off by a
couple of pints in the Anchor.
